The Goal

Sangamon County established a Mental Health Commission to assess the need for a countywide mental health board and educate the public on what such an investment could mean for the community. The goal was to explain a complex issue clearly, in accessible and trustworthy language grounded in real voices.

Constraints & Timing

The project required coordinating interviews with community members, mental health providers and commission representatives on tight schedules. The content needed to be structured for public information, prioritising clarity over persuasion.

Our Approach

Produced in collaboration with Systemax, the film was built around interview‑driven storytelling with a restrained documentary pace. We focused on listening first, letting participants explain the issue in their own words while capturing observational footage of meetings, clinics and community spaces to illustrate their stories.

Outcome

The final film presents a calm, informative overview of the commission’s work and recommendations. It helps viewers understand how the mental health board could impact the community by combining credible interviews with gentle pacing and supportive visuals.
